fail. im not gonna attempt to post how to properly pronounce nguyen. ****, i cant even spell it properly on this forum since there's no way to do the ^ and ~ sign correctly on this forum.

here's the simple one. all vietnamese words are mono syllable. there are no 2 syllable words in the vietnamese language. any that are, are taken from other languages like french and spanish.

I have always pronounced nguyen as 'when' or fairly similar. I hear that coming from my students when they pronounce their last names too.

I am sure it is a little Englishized - but it gets the pronunciation fairly close.
